July 1 - Las Vegas

We got up rather late and hooked up with Jeff for a tour of some of the casinos. First, though, I convinced Anita and Jeff that we should ride the monorail that connects some of the larger casinos. We got ourselves day passes and climbed aboard.

I was amazed at the amount of construction taking place all around the city. When we came in yesterday, we got hung up in traffic due to road widening projects on interstate 15, and there are a significant number of high-rise buildings under construction. Roadwork on the street past the Wyndham makes getting in and out a bit of a hassle; the sidewalks are tiny except for the ones on "The Strip."

Dollar day at the Sahara: Beers for a buck, hot dogs for a buck, blackjack for a buck a bet.

Waterfall in the golf course behind one of the casinos.

We could look out the back window of our condo (on the twelvth floor) and see airplanes coming and going at the airport. They have a very busy place here.

That evening we went out to eat at a classy restaurant near the "Old Strip," and had a really grand time. Afterward we strolled around that part of the city and enjoyed "people watching" (or what some unkindly call the freak show).
